I have always been in awe of Julius Shulman's "Case Study House #22". The retro-futurism and mid century architecture are right up my alley and something I knew I needed to capture.
For my take on this classic photo, I drew inspiration from multiple artists. The WPA style posters of the 30s and 40s, mostly recognized for their National Parks work, inspired the opaque shapes. The use of shadows and overall composition is similar to Edward Hopper’s work, most notably Nighthawks.
This is one of my favorite pieces due to its simplicity and ability to capture the essence of a glittering 60s Hollywood.
