A Sunday Study
Colored Pencils, black Stonehenge paper, 24x16
-
When creating this still life, I wanted to incorporate one of Georges Seurat’s studies for “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” into the work as I thought the pointillism would make good use of the colored pencil’s capabilities. I printed out the piece and mimicked some of his techniques before taking my reference photo.
I only had 24 pencils to work from, so using hues in unconventional ways served as great color theory practice. I’d love to return to this piece someday to continue to flesh it out and bring the piece to full wax coverage.
