The Prologue and the Promise (Reimagined)
Poster board, gold paper, cardboard
-
“The Prologue and the Promise" is one of my favorite paintings. The massive 60' mural once spanned the exit to Horizons at EPCOT and is the epitome of a brighter tomorrow. I wanted to capture a piece of this optimism for my everyday life, so I designed a mid-century, Jeré-esque version of the painting.
The first step was to transfer the painting to a Googie style, so I chose certain shapes to abstract and made the people simple triangles. After all the planning was complete, I began cutting out the individual pieces from poster board. The pieces were layered and assembled with cardboard for depth. The focal point, the bright sun, was achieved with gold paper. The lightweight piece was then fastened to the wall, adding a bit of retro-futurism to an otherwise bland room.
